The swell season is upon us and there’s a lot to keep up with in the world of SURF right now. Let’s get you up to speed with a quick hit list!
The Sunset Beach event is the second crown jewel in the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing and the last chance for contestants to automatically qualify for the Men’s 2020 Championship Tour (CT) through the Qualifying Series (QS).
The Australian needed a near-perfect final to qualify for his first Men’s Championship Tour, which he accomplished by capturing choice barrels to earn an impressive 19.07 two-wave total – a score that is now considered the best result ever achieved since the event at Sunset Beach came to fruition four decades ago.
“I was on point,” stated Robinson. “We’re ready. It was a while coming; a lot of build-up to this. I felt like I wanted to get on [the CT] earlier but it happens when it happens.”
Finals day got underway with six-foot swells firing. It hosted a hefty mix of talented riders, including runner-up Ezekiel Lau and Ethan Ewing and Cody Young, who earned a third and fourth place, respectively.
